The key to making the writing process as painless as possible is to start with a good outline. A detailed outline will allow you to write quickly and easily. When you create your outline, you can get all of your thoughts organized and make sure you cover all of the important aspects of your topic. When you try to write without an outline you’ll find that you’ll repeat yourself or leave important information out. Do yourself a favor and get everything written down in order before you start to write. Not only will the writing process go quickly, you’ll create a better quality product.

You’re right; it is really important to do some kind of prewriting. Outlines are one way, but they don’t work for everyone, especially those who don’t think a logical, linear kind of way. Mind maps, drawing, story boards, even recording your thoughts all serve the same purpose.
Thanks for reminding us all to think before we write.
