When writing emails and autoresponder messages, write as if you were talking to a friend. Address your readers by their first name only once or twice in your message. Repeating their name over and over is unnecessary, annoying and you end up sounding like a car salesman. You wouldn’t say your friends name repetitively in a conversation and shouldn’t your readers either.

Good point about name use. I only use it in the salutation, but get some mail where my name is used a number of times. It’s disconcerting.
