I've dabbled in Basecamp and I know they have a large and loyal following. It didn't quite fit what I wanted when I looked at it though.

Good point about the monthly fees. I'm definitely moving toward tools I can put on my server and hack if need be. An open source collaboration tool would be nice.

Oh...forgot to add. The fact that it's web-based means it carries a monthly fee which is quite steep. The communication it offers is well worth it, but it would be nicer if you could buy the script outright.

Another one to check out is http://www.basecamphq.com/ - it's a really sophisticated system and very comprehensive. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's all web-based and no option to install on your server.

Great point Alice. I'll have to check out TasksPro.com. I use http://www.Near-Time.com to work with my team. It helps with tasks, file sharing, and discussions. I don't use their task tool right now. We just make lists.

BTW. I'm glad to see you promoting Outsourcing Sweetie in your sig line. It's worked great for me!
